Widnes 29 North Ribblesdale 7 THE margin of this result flattered Widnes who were up against for long periods in this EDF Energy Senior Vase cup game, and it was only the efforts of their outstanding back division that was the difference between the two sides.
The home led 15-0 at half time courtesy of three long-range tries from Andy Riley, Mark Sibson and Kevin Leadbetter.
The second half was a different story with North Ribblesdale dominating for long periods, but they were unable to get past a tight Widnes defence.
Their only reward was a penalty try on the hour mark, but this was only after Mark Sibson had scored his second with a fantastic effort from 75 metres.
With the game out of reach, Kevin Leadbetter rounded things off for Widnes with another long-range effort five minutes and conversion just before time.

Antony Leadbetter scored the first Widnes try, followed by another from Martin O’Neill and a third from Tom Griffiths.
John Hetherington kicked a penalty and a conversion.
Macclesfield began the second half as they meant business and two early tries, both of which were converted, set up a grandstand finish.
Widnes, however, kept their heads and after John Parker had made a long-range break, John Hetherington slotted over another penalty, which secured the victory to maintain second spot in the league table.
Gavin Hatton picked up the man-of-the match award, closely followed by the efforts of Martin O’Neill, Antony Leadbetter, Dave Godwin and John Hetherington.
Next week, the Seconds have a rare home game against Didsbury Toc H.
Liverpool Collegiate 2nd 22 Widnes 3rds 5 WIDNES put in a great effort but just came up short in a terrific game against the league leaders.
For long periods this game was nip and tuck with some great excellent defence on show from both sides.
The visitors stuck to the task throughout the game and only ran out of steam in the last quarter when the home ran in two late tries and a conversion to seal the victory.
Up until that point there had been little to choose between the sides.
Widnes fluffed an easy penalty attempt before Collegiate opened the scoring with a try.
The visitors squared things up ten minutes later, before the home side made it 10-5 just before the break.
The hardworking Calum Hancock picked up the Widnes man of the match award, who travel to face New Brighton away on Saturday.

Merseyside Police got their game together in the second half to dominate the rest of the game, although Widnes did have the final say when a great try involving Goulding, Street and Leadbetter saw evergreen Phil Anders score a try for Goulding to add a booming touchline conversion.
Players of note for Widnes included; Niall Green, Paul Woods on debut and John Seville.
